L.A. by Night is a live-action actual-play show that features actors crafting a story from a TTRPG. Here, we look at all of the main characters.

L.A. by Night is a show in which the imagination of tabletop roleplayers entirely drives the plot. Existing within the world of Vampire: The Masquerade, the story is led by a narrator or "Storyteller." Each of the actors/players take on the role of a different Kindred, all from unique clans, which give them special abilities as they try to avoid final death.

We will be going over the seven main characters that comprise the show. Each character represents a different clan, and they are all played excellently by the players who help to create a compelling story in this Actual-Play-style show. Telling of the politics in the Kindred world and dealing with vampire hunters, werewolves, and spirits, here you'll get the rundown on each character and their undead lives.

Xander Jeanneret plays X, the Malkavian. Originally introduced as a recurring guest star, X would appear early in the series, acting as a friend to the group, having owed Jasper a favor. X would quickly form a close bond with Annabelle, experiencing visions that, while appearing as the inherent ramblings of a madman, would foretell Annabelle's future.

X later revealed that he acted as a spy for Baron Therese Voerman. Growing afraid of Therese's demeanor and feeling guilty for betraying Annabelle and company, X would flee. While X's abilities were more akin to precognition, he had shown strong support for his allies. While carrying a dark secret, X doesn't take as many episode credits as the rest of the cast, but rest assured, when he makes an appearance, you'll indeed have a laugh.

Jason Carl takes on the role of Storyteller. With every roleplaying game, one player takes on the narrator's part. An impartial third party acts as a narrative force, speaking of actions, the surrounding environment, and taking on the roles of any characters that are not controlled by the main cast.

As Brand Marketing Manager for World of Darkness, Jason Carl takes on the Storyteller role. Effectively acting as multiple characters throughout the various episodes covering the show's five-season run, Jason takes copious notes to ensure that not a single detail is missed when relaying information to the players and keeping track of any mistakes made along the way.

The Tremere sorceress with ghost-like skin, Eva, is played by Josephine McAdam. Having made minor appearances on HBO's The Leftovers, Josephine initially appeared as a guest star. Fans flocked to the actress's portrayal and commitment to the character, leading to the actress's return and promotion to the main cast.

Eva, as a Tremere, would have access to sorcery, usually helping the coterie prepare for battle and impending ambushes with wards that would protect them from negative forces. Eva's story arc would also help introduce the Wyrd sisters and begin a romance many fans have clamored to. Finding a spark of romance with Jasper, the Nosferatu, the pair's romance would lead to many heartfelt and laugh-out-loud moments in the series.

B. Dave Walters plays the Ventrue, Victor Temple. Serving as the group's father figure, Victor generally takes charge of the situation. This trend towards leadership would see Victor quickly rise up the ranks of Kindred politics, becoming the Baron of the Valley. Victor's past would come to haunt him on multiple occasions, as is often the case with Kindred.

One story arc, in particular, would be the appearance of Victor's son. The reveal would bring a philosophical argument between Annabelle and Victor, as Victor had been wiping his son's mind so he would not remember his visits. While Victor maintains that he only does this to protect his son, Annabelle maintains that this act infringes upon his son's free will. This argument would be brought up many times, through many different scenarios, with Victor declaring that he makes the decisions that no one else will.

Cynthia Marie embodies the role of Nelli G, the Toreador vampire. The Toreadors generally seek beauty; whether in people, art, dance, or some other form, beauty can be both the divas' gift to the world and the bane of their existence. Making an impact with her stunning blue hair and her powers of Awe & Lingering Kiss, Nelly proves more than capable of catching the attention of almost anyone who tries to endanger her coterie.

These powers would also lead Nelli to take a ghoul under her charge. Gregory Demetrios is a member of the Second Inquisition, a team of vampire hunters who seek to stake the Kindred to final death. But, after feeding from Nelli's blood, he became a loyal soldier for Nelli. While he states that he has simply grown to like the group, his addiction to Nelli's blood casts doubt. Nelli is also a former Camarilla who seeks to escape her sire, but not before killing her replacement in a jealous rage.

Jasper is a Nosferatu, as performed by Alexander Ward. Alex is known for performing under special effects makeup and appearing as a monster in films such as Annabelle Comes Home (2019) & Army of the Dead (2021). Here he is allowed to show off his acting chops and show off his makeup skills, playing the deformed Kindred with a chip on his shoulder.

After Annabelle joins the group, she and Jasper grow a very close bond, with Annabelle often turning to Jasper to confide in. While Jasper still carries strong feelings for his former girlfriend, Chloe, he also grows to have romantic feelings for Eva, with many fans wishing for there to be a happy ending for the pair. That happy ending is threatened on multiple occasions, with Jasper often being the first in the line of fire when situations become tense.

Erika Ishii takes on the role of Annabelle, the Brujah, with a strong attitude towards authority. Annabelle is a freshly turned vampire, effectively acting as the proxy for the audience to be introduced into this world of darkness. Asking all the questions on the audience's mind, Annabelle is thrust into a world of dangerous politics, where an outburst or the wrong reply could mean final death.

Annabelle would also prove to be a strong case for representation in the series, with a positive representation of polyamory on display, with Annabelle dating both Mark (Victor's son) and Eleanor, a fellow protestor. Annabelle would attempt to keep both of her loves safe, but both paramours would learn Annabelle's secret at different times. While Annabelle has a lot to learn throughout the series run, she is potentially the game changer that the Anarchs need in the coming war with the Camarilla.
