Okay, y'all. It's time for an obligatory WORLD STOP moment: Beyoncé. Is. Back.

B's new album officially dropped after a premature leak that had the Bey-Hive venomously defending the integrity of its release date. Now that it’s actually here as scheduled and we’ve taken a proper listen, it was definitely worth the wait. Boasting a masterful musical cacophony, the sequencing is serving our ears with a contagious tracklist that is both an escape and a return — specifically a return to our bodies via the non-stop dance beats. What a time to be alive!

Aptly titled Renaissance, the album is a melodic signpost of the times. Recorded when we were bound to inside-isms with no end in sight, Renaissance is pulsing with vibrations and syncopations that will inevitably be etched in our minds as the soundtrack for our collective revival.

"This three-act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic. A time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative," Beyoncé explained in a message on her website. "Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration."

And what a journey it is. The record's lead single, Break My Soul, broke the internet upon its release late last month. The unapologetic anthem promised to make "The Great Resignation" great again and our feeds were flooded with an infectious rallying cry to release ourselves from what's been plaguing us since the early days of the pandemmy: our jobs, our fears, our inhibitions, our woes... all set to a funky beat that made us groove our troubles away.

Ever the master of reinvention, the totality of Beyoncé's Renaissance is no exception. With it, Queen B returns to our playlists with an updated sound that reflects both old and new school influences, marrying '90s diva house, bounce, and trap — setting the tone and vibes for what is perhaps our most coveted summer season yet.

I’ve had “Cozy” on repeat — it’s moody, bold, and the perfect song to gas me up and keep me going when I’m in the gym or getting ready to hit the streets for a night out.
