Apple launched the iPhone 14 Pro (6.1-inch) and iPhone 14 Pro Max (6.7-inch) alongside the iPhone 14/iPhone 14 Plus, Apple Watch Series 8/Watch Ultra, and the AirPods Pro 2nd gen. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max come with new innovations that make this year's Pro lineup stand out from any other smartphone.

The most prominent of these is Dynamic Island. Dynamic island is a feature that makes the notch area a lot more purposeful than before. Speaking of the notch, the iPhone 14 Pro lineup features a reduced notch area as has been speculated in leaks so far. Dynamic Island adapts the notch area in real-time to show useful info such as alerts, notifications, and other background activities. Third-party apps can hook into the Dynamic Island feature and display their own background tasks as well.

Both the iPhone 14 Pro (2,556 x 1,179) and iPhone 14 Pro Max (2,796 x 1,290) feature a Super Retina XDR ProMotion 120 Hz display. The Pro models also feature an always-on display (AOD), which has long been a request from Apple users. The AOD on the iPhone 14 Pros is a lot more information than what we see on most Android flagships at the moment. The AOD shows widgets, Live Activities, and other information including the wallpaper with good amount of detailing such as skin tones.

Apple said that the display can dial down all the way to 1 Hz and go up to 120 Hz and has a contrast ratio of 20,00,000:1. This time, both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max can attain a peak brightness of 2,000 nits outdoors and 1,600 nits in HDR mode. A Ceramic Shield front cover ensures protection against spills and confers dust and water resistance.

The camera system is another area that has seen a massive upgrade and is mostly in line with what the rumor mill has been predicting thus far. Apple claims 2x low-light performance on the main camera, 2x on the Telephoto camera, 2x on the TrueDepth camera, and 3x on the Ultra-Wide camera of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max thanks to the A16 Bionic's Photonic Engine and an improved Deep Fusion image processing method.

The mian camera is a 48 MP shooter that bins four pixels for an effective 12 MP image. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max can also shoot ProRAW at 48 MP. Other camera features include:

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max also come with Crash Detection and a new Emergency SOS function via satellite. Currently, the Emergency SOS feature is available in the US and Canada from November and comes with a free two-year usage. Apple is removing the physical SIM tray on US models of the iPhone 14 and is encouraging users to opt for eSIMs.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max go live on September 9 with availability from September 16. Pricing starts from US$999 (₹1,29,000 after taxes) for the iPhone 14 Pro and US$1,099 (₹1,39,900 after taxes) for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Available color options include deep purple, silver, gold, and space black in storage capacities ranging from 128 GB to 1 TB.
