Lenovo has announced the affordable new Motorola Edge (2022) with a 144Hz OLED Display, mmWave 5G, Dolby Atomos speakers and other high-end features.

Lenovo has announced the new Motorola Edge (2022), bringing some key improvements over its predecessor. The Motorola Edge (2022) is an upgrade over last year's Edge 2021, which was powered by the Snapdragon 778G processor and came with a $699 price tag. As for the new phone, it is expected to compete against a slew of mid-rangers from Samsung's Galaxy A-series, as well as Google's Pixel 6a, which was announced earlier this year.

The Edge (2022) launch comes just a week after Lenovo's mega event in China, where the company launched multiple new Motorola smartphones, including the Moto Razr (2022), the Moto X30 Pro and the Moto S30 Pro. However, none of those devices are expected to hit U.S. shores, making the latest launch significant, especially for folks looking to grab an affordable mid-range Android smartphone.

The Moto Edge (2022) features a 6.6-inch 144Hz OLED display with HDR10+ support. It also has 1,300 nits of max brightness and supports DC dimming technology. The sound output is taken care of by two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos technology. The phone is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 1050 SoC, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The device also comes with an under-display fingerprint scanner and has an IP52 rating that denotes protection from dust and resistance to water.

Imaging options on the Moto Edge (2022) include a triple-camera setup at the back, led by a 50MP primary sensor that Motorola claims offers its "fastest, most accurate autofocus ever." In addition, it offers OIS and omnidirectional PDAF technology. The other two cameras include a 13MP ultrawide shooter that doubles as a macro vision camera, as well as an additional depth sensor. On the front, the phone has a 32MP camera housed within a centrally-aligned punch-hole. The phone also comes with Auto Night Vision technology for better photography in low-light situations, as well as slow-motion shooting.

The Edge (2022) supports sub-6Ghz 5G connectivity and mmWave 5G, which should offer blazing fast speeds where available. The device sports a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. It also comes with 5W reverse wireless charging, enabling users to juice up other devices using the phone's battery. On the software side, the Moto Edge (2022) comes with Android 12 out-of-the-box but will receive three Android updates and up to four years of security patches. The phone also ships with all the usual Motorola software, including 'Ready For,' which offers a desktop-like experience when casting to an external display, TV, or Windows PC.

Aside from the specs and features, Motorola says that the Edge (2022) is the first Motorola device to be entirely carbon offset and will arrive in 100 percent plastic-free packaging. The company also says it will compensate for every Motorola Edge (2022)'s remaining carbon footprint. For folks looking to buy the device, it will come to T-Mobile at $498 before being available at Verizon, Spectrum Mobile, UScellular and Visible. The unlocked version will also be available at Best Buy, Amazon.com and Motorola.com at a launch price of $499.99. The Motorola Edge (2022) will also be available in Canada "in the coming months."
