Exhibitions by Yasmin Rashid and Gary Taneri open Saturday at Trumbull Art Gallery.
Rashid’s “Taking the Next Step to a Color Full World” includes works created with acrylic, watercolor, oil, ink and pencil.
In her artist statement, Rashid wrote, “For me, making art is both a catharsis, and therapeutic. When I create a work of art, I follow my instincts rather than rules which gives me pleasure and sense of freedom.”
She describes each new piece as an experimentation with color, texture, and lines.
“I am a product of multiple cultures and do not feel at all constrained by one style or technique,” she wrote. “I have been influenced by both the traditions and images of the East and West. I look at the role of women in various traditions and think deeply about the traditional styles, jewelry, colorful veils and other implements that define women across cultures and traditions.”
Taneri’s work has been exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art, the McDonough Museum of Art, Soap Gallery, Hoyt Art Center, Erie Art Museum, the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery and other galleries.
He has degrees from The Ohio State University, Youngstown State University and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and has taught at the University of Mount Union.
Also on display will be a benefit exhibition featuring the work of Alice Tomko
The shows will be on display through Aug. 12 at TAG, 158 N. Park Ave., Warren. An opening reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, go to trumbullartgallery.com or call 330-395-4876.
