Top auto news of the week: 10-seater Hyundai Staria launch confirmed, special-edition BMW 8 Series Coupe launched, and more | Zigwheels

Over the past week, we saw two special-edition launches in the Malaysian auto arena from the house of the BMW Group viz. BMW M850i xDrive Coupe MY edition and MINI Electric Resolute edition. We also got some key details about the upcoming 10-seater Hyundai Staria. Meanwhile, things were quite more exciting abroad as the highly awaited Ferrari Purosangue and the seventh-gen Ford Mustang finally broke cover. Here’s a quick recap of all important happenings of the week - 

2022 BMW M850i xDrive Coupé MY Edition launched: As mentioned above, BMW introduced the M850i xDrive Coupé MY Edition on the local shores this week, The special 8 Series Coupe boasts a new design theme inside and out along with an extended standard specs sheet. Mechanically, things remain the same with a 4.4-litre turbo V8 engine generating 530 PS and 750 Nm of torque. It is priced at RM 1,102,800.

2022 MINI Electric Resolute Edition launched: Another special model launched by the BMW Group Malaysia is a variant of the Cooper SE (aka Mini Electric), called the MINI Electric Resolute Edition. It features several unique styling touches that make the luxury hatch visually distinctive. The car dons Rebel Green exterior paint finish paying homage to the original MINI Connaught Green shade. The automaker retails this limited edition Cooper for RM 197,934. 

10-seater Hyundai Staria launch confirmed: After teasing the 10-seater Staria last month, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors has now opened the booking for the upcoming MPV. The new trim will sit above the already available 7-seater Staria Premium. Set to be launched sometime in Q4 2022, the MPV will be offered in three versions - Lite, Plus and Max at a starting estimated price of RM 17X,XXX.

Lamborghini Urus Performante made its Malaysian debut: The sporty iteration of the Lamborghini Urus, the Urus Performante, has recently been previewed on the local shores in a special gathering. The launch timeline and Malaysian pricing of the model are not yet confirmed.

100,000th Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck delivered: Mitsubishi Triton has crossed the 100,000 sales mark in Malaysia. The owner of the 100,000th unit, Muhammad Faerus, received a special reward from the automaker to mark the occassion. That’s free diesel worth up to RM 27,000. 

Volvo Certified Damage Repair Centre opens up: Volvo has opened up a dedicated body paint and repair service centre in Malaysia, called the Volvo Certified Damage Repair Centre. It offers supreme body repair and paint jobs to customers. The two locations of the VCDR are Sime Darby Swedish Auto, Ara Damansara and Federal Auto Cars, Glenmarie.

Ferrari Purosangue revealed: After a long wait, Ferrari has finally pulled the wraps of its first-ever SUV, the Purosangue, this week. The ultra-luxury vehicle is a  'four-door, four-seat model,’ featuring exceptionally amazing aesthetics and advanced technologies. It runs on a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 mill dishing out 725 hp of max power and 716 Nm of peak torque. The SUV clocks the 100 kmph mark in 3.3 seconds only.

Seventh-gen Ford Mustang broke cover: At the ongoing 2022 Detroit Auto Show, Ford has put up the highly-awaited next-gen Mustang on display. The latest version of the brand’s pony car gains a fresh design appeal both inside and out, however the mechanical stuff remains unchanged with the same 2.3-litre Ecoboost and 5.0-litre V8 units.

Land Rover Defender 75th Limited Edition introduced: Marking the 75th anniversary of the iconic Defender is the recently introduced Defender 75th Limited Edition. The big birthday special version gets an exclusive Grasmere Green exterior shade along with some cosmetic tweaks making the SUV more appealing. It is based on the X-Dynamic HSE trim and will be available in two two-door 90 and four-door 110 trims.

Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe revealed: Jeep has expanded the lineup of the hybrid Wrangler by adding the heritage-inspired Wrangler Willys 4xe to the list. The latest model carries visual enhancements like a black front grille, a large Willys decal, rock rails, and electric blue tow hooks. Pricing in the US market starts at $53,995.

2023 Peugeot e-308 broke cover: The electric derivatives of the Peugeot 308 hatchback and SW estate have recently been introduced in the European market. Dubbed as the e-308, the  EVs look much similar to the ICE models with a front-mounted electric motor and a 54-kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the skin. The Peugeot e-308 driving range is rated at 400 kilometres. 

Volkswagen ID Xtreme concept showcased: To know public opinion about the adventurous range of ID cars, Volkswagen has come up with an off-road focused version of the ID4 GTX SUV, called the ID Xtreme concept. It is based on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform and carries an uprated rear motor with some software revisions taking the power output to 475 hp (88 hp more than the donor model).

Next-gen Honda BR-V made its Philippines debut: After Thailand, the next-gen Honda BR-V has now made its way to the Philippines. The Japanese automaker has been showcasing the latest BR-V at the ongoing 2022 Philippine International Motor Show, with the official launch to happen soon. Information as to when it will hit the local roads is not available at the moment.
