How Far Above A Counter Should Sneeze Guards Be Placed? 

The height above the finished floor of a checkout counter sneeze guard should be tall enough to adequately create a physical separation or divider between the store employee and the customer. The average customer height is between 5 feet and 6 feet tall. Most ADA compliant checkout counters are approximately 38 inches tall. Other table heights used generally vary from 30 inches to 42 inches tall. A sneeze guard mounted to a checkout counter should be at least 34 inches tall to effectively create a barrier. It includes a 3/16 inch thick solid acrylic panel with a notch that is large enough to pass a typical 12-pack through it for checkout. The panel measures 32 inches wide by 36 inches tall. The pass-through hole measures 12 inches high by 20 inches wide. This unit includes two acrylic bases that attach to the plastic panel with no tools required.
